When I have a busy week…I love making a HUGE batch of these so I can use them for different types of meal during the week. Today, I am using them in these banh bao (steam bun). Tomorrow, I am making stir fry noodles with mix vegetable. We like them in our fried rice also.
INGREDIENTS
3 lbs of pork belly
1 package of Chinese BBQ Char Siu
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
GARNISH
cilantro
pickle carrots
sliced cucumber
chili/sriracha
DIRECTION
In a large bowl with a cover…add all your ingredients …Chinese Char Siu package, soy sauce, honey, garlic powder, cracked black pepper. Mix really well. Next, add in the pork belly and coat with the marinade. Marinade for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator. If you can marinade over night..it would be better.
Preheat oven to 400 degree. On a baking pan…line with foil (makes cleaning up so much easier and faster). Lay the pork belly with the FAT side up. Place in the middle rack of the oven. Cook for 25-35 minutes then increase the oven to BOIL. Boil the top of the PORK BELLY for a few seconds. You want the top to be a CRISPY GOLDEN BROWN color. Take pan out of the oven and let it rest. Lay the pork belly on the cutting board and CUT the pork at an ANGLE.
Serve warm. We love to eat our pork belly with these steam buns with sliced cucumber, cilantro, and pickle carrots. Add some chili if you like it a little spicy.
